Roxy Music, “Avalon” (Avalon, 1982)

“In the music video for the song ‘Avalon’ by Roxy Music (Avalon, 1982) at 1:50 you see a bust of Dante.  The video was filmed in Mentmore Towers, England, although it is not clear that that is where the bust is located.  The lyrics, inspired by the legend of King Arthur, hint at the King’s final journey–that of death–to the magical island of Avalon, guided by a beautiful spirit.  Imagery throughout the video is symbolic of the soul and the afterlife.”    –Arielle Saiber
