According to New Zealand media outlet Stuff, Dante’s Fine Foods was opened in 2005 by a Dutch family who had emigrated to New Zealand and desired to bring European grocery goods to their new neighborhood in Cambridge, NZ. You can find the store on Duke Street, in the Waikato market.
The current website explains the name: “Our shop is named in honour of the great Italian writer Dante Alighieri, who wrote poetry so exquisite that it ushered in a whole new style of literature. And that’s exactly what we’re about: a new style. Dante’s means a fresh approach to eating.”
