The Sopranos, S6E2: “Join the Club” (2006)

“In ‘Join the Club’ (2006), Tony has a recurring coma-dream in which he checks into Room 728 (i.e., level seven) at the Omni Hotel in Costa Mesa, using the identity of non-mafia civilian Kevin Finnerty. When the hotel elevator is out of commission, Tony descends a red staircase, slips, and falls to level five. Tony’s surgeon, Dr. Plepler, tells Tony’s wife, sisters and daughter they’re lucky Tony’s at a Level 1 trauma center. (Level one is Limbo).” — Wikipedia

The above quote has since been removed from Wikipedia’s “Divina Commedia in Popular Culture” page, but several others have explored the connection between Dante and The Sopranos. Antwell99 on Reddit says:

“Kevin Finnerty stayed on the 7th floor of the hotel and his room number was 728 “seven to eight” which could mean that Tony was getting deeper into hell if he didn’t change a bit after waking up from his coma. However, he relapsed and season 6 part II basically is his journey before actually going to hell (if we consider that Tony gets clipped at Holsten’s).”    —r/thesopranos (August 2, 2021)
