“The third and final part of The Divine Comedy, this masterful narrative follows Dante’s ascent of Mount Purgatory, where souls seek redemption through suffering and hope. Translated with lyrical clarity by Clive James, the journey blends theological insight with poetic brilliance as Dante moves closer to spiritual illumination.
“Features eight full-color illustrations by Marc Burckhardt and a custom-crafted slipcase.” –Dante’s Paradiso, Easton Press
The description, provided by Easton Press, seems to apply instead to Purgatorio.
Burckhardt’s illustrations seem to verge on the edge of a sort of surrealism, leaning heavily into the allegory and symbolism of the poem. Pictured above is Burckhardt’s illustration of Paradiso 3. See more of Burckhardt’s work at marcburckhardt.com.
