Ethel Cain, “Ptolemaea,” Preacher’s Daughter (2022)

“The song is named after one of four concentric rings of the ninth circle of hell as represented in Dante’s Inferno, intended for those who betray their guests. This concept of betrayal struck a chord with Anhedönia [Cain]: ‘I was immediately like, “That’s how it feels.” When someone invites you in, brings you into their life, just to hurt you. I was scared of the demo the next day when I listened to it.'”   —ethel-cain.fandom.com

“Ptolemaea” is the ninth track on Cain’s first studio album, Preacher’s Daughter, released on May 12, 2022.
